Consumerization is the design, marketing, and selling of products and services targeting the individual end consumer. Apple CEO Tim Cook recently promoted a $100-per-year iPhone app called Derm Expert. Derm Expert allows doctors to diagnose skin problems using only their iPhone. Doctors take a photo of a patient's skin condition and then Derm Expert diagnoses the problem and prescribes treatment. Doctors can effectively treat patients without a high performance computer or an expensive technology environment.

As our Intel CEO Brian Krzanich discussed earlier today at Wall Street Journal's D.Live event, Intel will soon be shipping the world's first family of processors designed from the ground up for artificial intelligence (AI): the Intel Nervana Neural Network Processor family (formerly known as "Lake Crest"). This family of processors is over 3 years in the making, and on behalf of the team building it, I'd like to share a bit more insight on the motivation and design behind the world's first neural network processor. Machine Learning and Deep Learning are quickly emerging as the most important computational workloads of our time. These methods allow us extract meaningful insights from data. We've been listening to our customers and applying changes to Intel's silicon portfolio to deliver superior Machine Learning performance.

Today I spoke at the WSJDLive global technology conference about cognitive and artificial intelligence (AI) technology, two nascent areas that I believe will be transformative to the industry and world. These systems also offer tremendous market opportunity and are on a trajectory to reach $46 billion in industry revenue by 20201. As part of this, today we announced that Intel will ship the industry's first silicon for neural network processing, the Intel Nervana Neural Network Processor (NNP), before the end of this year. We are thrilled to have Facebook in close collaboration sharing its technical insights as we bring this new generation of AI hardware to market. The Intel Nervana NNP promises to revolutionize AI computing across myriad industries.
